Aizzat Nordin is a visual producer and an independent documentary photographer based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a decade of experience in the industry. As a local who migrated from the outskirt to the city to work as a researcher, he observed that life is much more complex in the heart of the town. Graduate from the National University of Malaysia in Genetics (science) in 2014, Aizzat worked as a researcher at the Institute for Medical Research in the haematology department before pursuing his passion for photojournalism. He focuses on telling stories of the underrepresented communities precisely issues that are close to the migrant communities and topics relating to labour after he returns from Australia to complete his personal work in 2015.
In 2015, he spent 5 months in Australia, documenting the story of an illegal migrant from Malaysia working as a fruit picker on Australian farms. He took the project not only as a self-appointed investigative journalism piece but as his personal body of work. Through the work of the fruit picker's story, Aizzat was selected to be a participant in the prestigious 12th Angkor Photo Workshop, his very first professional workshop.
In addition to his work as a photojournalist, Aizzat also worked with policy-makers as a visual director and helped them to deliver their narratives more deliberately. Aizzat is currently pursuing his master's degree in Visual Art from the University of Malaya. His work has been published in various outlets and publications such as TIME magazine, Lowy Institute, and many more.
