The Cambodian says that Praday Serey is the original version of modern-day Muay Thai because it was used as the Khmer empire military method in expanding its territory thousands of years ago. As prove to this claim, its history is documented by the marking and carving on the ancient temple wall such as the Angkor Wat, proving that this art is as old as the human civilisation itself. With this wisdom and knowledge, it is a no-brainer why the Khmer empire was once a military powerhouse in the Asian region once upon a time.
Its beautiful choreography is inspired by the nature. This is the time when humans learn to live with nature as our ancestors have a strong belief that nature holds true power in them. As the fighter performs a ritualistic dance in the ring before the fight began, the performer swings his elbow like the swift motion of a buffalo swinging its horn and spread his arms before weighting it in the centre like the roasters spread its wings to threaten its opponent. These fights are usually taking place deep in the rural area, away from the business of the thriving cities like Siem Reap. In these parts of town, fighters fight for their life metaphorically speaking. They fight to earn extra income from the betting of the crowd. Throughout time, the purposes of this art have never changed for its practitioner, to use it to fight and defend its practitioners against the enemy. What once was used to fight the enemy to conquer more land and expand the Khmer Kingdom, now is used to free the Khmer from poverty.
